Joe Forgione
President and Chief Executive Officer

Joe has over 20 years of experience in the software industry both as an executive leading early stage companies and driving new initiatives in major software companies. Prior to joining mValent, Forgione was Vice President of Solutions for Novell where he was responsible for Global Solutions Creation and Marketing. Forgione also served as President and CEO of content management leader Eprise, a company that he took public. Prior, Forgione held a number of positions at Lotus, now part of IBM, including Vice President and GM of Notes solutions. Earlier, Forgione co-founded HyperDesk, an object-oriented tools company and held various marketing management positions at Data General. Joe has a BS in Electrical Engineering from MIT and an MS in Management from MIT Sloan School.

Jeff Cooper
Vice President, Finance

Jeff has a strong track record as a senior finance executive. Prior to joining mValent, he was CFO of Cymfony, a media research and analysis vendor. Prior to Cymfony, Jeff held senior finance management roles with Divine, Inc. and Northern Light Technology. Jeff’s broad financial experience includes equity funding, acquisitions, business strategy and operations. Jeff holds a BS in accounting from Northeastern University and is a certified public accountant.

Jim Crowley

Vice President, Sales

Jim Crowley brings over 20 years of high technology sales leadership to the job of overseeing mValent’s sales strategy. Throughout his career, he has met and exceeded sales goals at technology companies both large and small. Prior to joining mValent, he led sales efforts at early stage companies focused on secure email, Web content, application and database security. In 2002, while in charge of North American sales at Aptrix, he ran the partnering relationship that led to the firm’s acquisition by IBM. Prior to this, as Regional VP at Eprise, Inc., his region contributed 47% of the company’s revenue for three years and help grow the company from pre-revenue to a successful IPO. Jim has also held senior sales roles at Interrealty Corp., a Chicago Tribune company, and at Mobile Computing Corporation, where he managed sales on the East coast and assisted in growing the company from pre-revenue to a successful IPO. Jim is a life long resident of Massachusetts, and has a BA from Siena College, Albany, NY.

Jim Hickey
Chief Marketing Officer

Jim Hickey joins mValent with over 20 years of software marketing and sales experience with emerging and growing companies. Immediately prior to joining mValent, Hickey spent six years with Authentica, providing executive leadership in marketing, business development and sales. Jim has also had executive marketing and sales positions at Omtool and Xyvision and is a former strategy consultant with global consulting giant, Booz-Allen & Hamilton. Jim has an MBA degree from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and a BA degree in Economics from Harvard College.

Swapnil Shah
Founder & Chief Strategy Officer

For the last 15 years, Swapnil Shah has been founding and leading infrastructure software vendors into innovative markets. Prior to launching mValent, Swapnil was the General Manager of the Wireless Division at Inktomi, a leading network infrastructure software company. Swapnil joined Inktomi in 1999 when it acquired Webspective, a venture-backed server management and content distribution software company that Swapnil founded. Prior to founding Webspective in 1996, Swapnil was co-founder and Director of Product Management at Open Environment Corporation, a multi-platform middleware company, which went public in 1995 and was later acquired by Borland. Swapnil has a BS in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from Cornell University.

Alex Shayan
Vice President, Product Development and Services

Alex brings over 20 years of software development strategy and implementation in both large and emerging companies to mValent. He joins mValent from 170 Systems where he was Vice President of Product Development. Earlier in his career, Alex served as Senior Vice President, Content and Collaboration at Divine where he broadened the scope of Divine's content management offerings and led the building of the company's offshore development capability. Previously, he was Vice President, Content Engineering at OpenMarket (acquired by Divine) head of Engineering at Futuretense (acquired by OpenMarket) and held senior engineering management roles at Digital Equipment Corporation. Alex holds a B.S. in Computer Science and Math from Quinnipiac University and a M.S. in Computer Science from RPI.

James Tauber

Founder & Chief Technology Officer

James has more than a decade of experience driving Web technologies and standards in both commercial and academic environments. He was one of the original invited experts who helped develop the XML standard in 1996. For this work and other contributions to the software industry, James was recognized by Network World along with Google CEO Eric Schmidt and Microsoft Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie as one of seven "software saviors" on their prestigious "50 On Power's Edge" list. He is also a well-known open source developer.

Prior to co-founding mValent James was Director of XML Technology at Web Services pioneer Bowstreet where he was responsible for technical evangelism, standards and advanced technology. He served as Bowstreet's representative to the W3C and OASIS where he served on numerous working groups and technical committees and was chair of the OASIS DSML TC. In addition to his passion for software development, James maintains active interests in music composition, filmmaking, differential geometry and its application to General Relativity as well as New Testament Greek. James holds a BSc in Linguistics from the University of Western Australia and is currently pursuing a PhD. Visit James’s Web site.
