mValent Survey Highlights Overwhelming Requirement to Automate IT Services

90% of CA World Attendees Surveyed Cite the Need for Automating Application Configuration Management to Reduce Errors and Downtime

BURLINGTON, Mass., November 28, 2005 — mValent, the leader in automated application configuration management software, today announced the results of a survey of attendees at CA World last week. The survey focused on determining the level of interest IT managers have in applying automation tools to IT service delivery. The results overwhelmingly reiterated that application configuration management, when handled manually, is extremely time-consuming. As a result, the survey showed that the vast majority of respondents are currently evaluating automation solutions.

Specific findings include:

  • 60 percent indicate it takes IT service teams more than four hours to install and configure a new application server for production
  • 75 percent indicate that it takes more than two hours to isolate and fix a configuration-related issue when it arises
  • 94 percent plan to use automation to improve IT service delivery in the near future
  • 87 percent are actively looking for an automated solution to reduce the time it takes to release and manage a new critical business application

“Our survey at CA World confirmed in vivid detail what our customers have been telling us for some time now,” said mValent Vice President of Marketing Gareth Taube. “The manual processes that many IT managers are limited to in configuring application infrastructures have real, negative consequences.”

The survey findings come on the heels of the recent launch of mValent Integrity, a new solution that automates the manual and error-prone tasks required to configure and manage today’s complex distributed enterprise application infrastructures. mValent Integrity is the most complete solution for automating the thousands of infrastructure configuration settings for such diverse assets as application servers, Web servers, databases, middleware and operating systems. Based on the company's patent-pending Dynamic Configuration Model (DCM) technology, mValent Integrity reduces IT services workload by more than 50 percent and enables IT departments to successfully address application support issues with unequaled levels of configuration knowledge, change control and release automation.
